In this legend, it was said that a treasure was discovered every seven years (hence the saying: “Si ssi rapi munti d'oru!” → “the golden mountain unfolded” ), mostly by honest people, chosen from among the poor. People who were kissed by fortune, those to whom certain benevolent spiritis were especially found, were awakened in the middle of the night by misterious visitors, under the condition that they tell no one, and were ionstructed to go to Monte Rossello, ehre, beneath a certain stone, they would find a treasure filled with precious gems and many gold coins. Some, through understandbly trembling, would go to the appointed place and there would find the treasure. There were gold coins and zecchinos enough to live out all the years of one's life in extravagance, as long as one used them to do good for others. Other pepole, perharps more timid and fearful, would confide the matter to a family meber and gio to the appointed place together with them.
But alas, having disobeyed the instructions, they would find only pieces of broken glass or snail shells (slivers of “babbaluci”). Even today, among the older folks, there are still those who swear the story is true.
