THE HISTORY
Saint San Calogero Festival of Realmonte
San Calogero festivals in Sicily are being part of the religious traditions of the Island: a bond of pagan and christian traditions, legends, races carrying the statue of Saint Calogero and processions, pilgrimages, votive breade offerings.
As part of the festival, people offer gifts to the Saints (money, food...) and the Statue beares are offerying their body to carry the Saint all around the town.
All these rituals are typical into Agrigento and Nisseno areas, and somehow they can incorporate many issues of our time, and Saint Calogero could be merged into the dramatic and diasporic histories of the migrants.
