Rocca Gucciarda o Scogliu do Zitu e da Zita

It is a small island that is about 200 meters from the beach of Lido Rossello. It can be reached by boats or by swimming. Near Rocca Gucciarda, expecially into the section facing the south of sea, there is a depth of about 10 meters.
It is assumed that it was formed following the erosion of Monte Rossello, which covered the stretch of the sea up to the islet of compact sandstone stuff, the same material the mountain is made of. There is a legend that tells about the story about two guys, Rosa and Peppe, that fell in love, tied to the life and death. The story tells that they would have thrown themselves headlong, into the spot where the two rocks emerged (that's why it is called Scogliu do Zitu e da Zita = rock of the boyfriend and the girlfriend), and, deep down, they are joined by a thin tongue of rock, so the islet was formed.

The original name “Rocca Guccia” it seems derives from the term “cciarda”, that in dialect means “pointy”, and that's how it looks the rock's surface, particularly annoying to step on with your feet.
The islet is made of a sedimentary rock formed by clasts, marine organisms, shellfish fragments, weeds and foraminiferans.
From a geological point of view, it a piece of rock (calcaretinics or calcaretine sandy formayion) from the Quaternary period, which broke away from them side of Monte Rossello.
It has a geological age of about five hundred thousand years.
