Centro Urbano
Realmonte is a town located into the province of Agrigento, in the region of Sicily in Italy.
Its urban center is located on a hill about 2 kilometers from the coast, it is characterized by narrow and winding streets, ancient houses and small squares, indeed typical of the peasant society that inhabited it.
It was born in 1681, when Don Domenico Monreale, Duke of Castrofilippo and Prince of Belvedere, owner of the territory called della Mendola, purchased the right mere and mixed empire in his properties (from the Royal General Treasury), which consisted in the acquisition of the feudal lord of civil jurisdiction and criminal over the inahbitants of his land.
A year later, he obtained the licentia fabricandi by the Viceroy Francesco Bonavides (cont of Santo Stefano), and therefore the possibility to build palaces, churches and houses.
